Production of the H63T began in 1954, an featured a number of technical and engineering improvements over the earlier H61T. The first H Series, was very tall and hard to steer due to the steering column. The H63T height was lowered and the steering mechanism, significantly improved. Production of this H Series tractor lasted until 1958.

Hennis Freight Line was started in 1934, in Mt. Airy,N.C. The company was sold by its original owners. In 1947, the new owner moved corporate headquarters to Winston-Salem,N.C. Hennis grew quickly, and became one of the largest LTL carriers. Poor business planning of its fleet group, and poor fleet maintainance, coupled with a devistating Teamster's strike in the 1970's, led to the largest bankruptcy filing in trucking history to that time.
